India is going to buy two sky eyes soon, amid increasing threats from China and Pakistan. With their help, enemies of the country preparing to open a front against India on two front will be able to keep a close watch. The Indian Defense Ministry may soon finalize the agreement with Israel regarding this.
Two AWACS systems will be purchased from Israel
Under this agreement, Israel will supply two Falcon Airborne Warning and Control Systems (AWACS) to India. In the past, India and Israel have been negotiated several times about the price of this deal. However, given the two-way threat, pressure is mounting on India to finalize the deal as soon as possible.
Deal may get approval soon
Israeli Falcon Avax will be mounted on Russia’s Illusin-76 heavy lift aircraft. According to sources, the deal has been discussed in the Inter-Ministerial Committee and it will soon be presented before the Cabinet Committee on Security for final approval.
India already has three Falcon AWACS
The Indian Air Force already operates three Falcon AWACs. He was inducted into the Indian Air Force between 2009 and 2011. According to sources, the two AWACs that are in talks to buy from Israel will be more powerful than the earlier three Falcons. They can monitor many types of flying objects over long distances.
AWACS are critically useful in providing prior information about approaching enemy air movements, meanwhile directing defence assets to tackle any breach of air space. The Israeli-built PHALCON system comes equipped with a high-tech Green Pine radar system, which has a range of 300 to 500 kilometres.
However, this addition will not put India on a par with China or even Pakistan.China is equipped with better capabilities. As TOI reported earlier, China has over 20 AWACS, including the new KJ-500 ones that can track over 60 aircraft at ranges up to 470km, while Pakistan, on the other hand has four Swedish Saab-2000 AeW&C aircraft and four Chinese-origin ZDK-03 (KJ-200) AWACS.
