New Delhi: In yet another provocation towards India, Pakistan government on Tuesday approved a new political map showing the union territories of Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh as Pakistani territories. The controversial map also shows the erstwhile state of Junagadh in Gujarat and Sir Creek within Pakistan’s borders.

The new official map describes J&K as Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu & Kashmir. The Pakistani government confirmed that the map will henceforth be used in curriculum across the country.

Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Imran Khan chaired a federal cabinet meet and approved a new political map of Pakistan while including the Jammu and Kashmir region in it for the first time ever.

After unveiling the new map, Imran Khan said it is backed by “all political parties and people of Pakistan”. He also said that this map is against the Indian government’s August 5 decision in Jammu and Kashmir last year.

The Pakistan Prime Minister, however, added that the resolution of Kashmir dispute only lies in the UN Security Council resolutions. “We believe Kashmir dispute can only be resolved through political means not military,” he added.

Reacting to the new political map, Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi congratulated the entire nation and Imran Khan for taking the “unprecedented step”.

“For the first time in history our government has openly presented its stance before the world,” he said.

Qureshi said the plebiscite should be held in Kashmir region under the watch of UN to determine the future of disputed territory. “We believe that the entire Kashmir region is disputed and it needs a solution,” he added.

He went on to say that it has been declared that “Siachen is part of Pakistan, and we challenge India’s position on it”.
