India’s next generation air defence system:QR-SAM

The QRSAM is a quick reaction, all-weather and network-centric search-on-the-move missile system. It can engage multiple targets at a range of about 30 km with two vehicle configuration for area air defence.
The missile is a truck-mounted one with 360 degree rotatable, electronic-mechanically operated, turret-based launch unit..

QR-SAM missile uses solid fuel propellant and has a stated range of strike range of 25-30 km. Truck-mounted canister makes the missile system increase the mobility of the missile system ten fold over Akash Air Defence System and there are also many other factors which hint that QR-SAM missile will be game changer missile system for Indian Armed forces and will be bigger Success then Akash Air Defence System.

QRSAM is a highly mobile air defence system which comes with 100 percent kill probability, and has the capability to neutralise aerial targets like fighter jets, cruise missiles and air to surface missiles as well as short-range ballistic missiles. QRSAM is also a vital component in India’s “Cold Start” Doctrine which will ensure the safety of forward Army formations in Enemy territories. The Mach 1.8

QR-SAM is like an Ak-47 in Aerial Defence systems and like Ak-47 which is more suited to urban combat and close-range combat, QR-SAM to has similar characters and is a very effective weapon when used under such scenario.

A country like India which has hostile neighbors like Pakistan and China , it can not depend 100% on single Air Defence Cover for such a large country . relying on Single System is a practice which is not even followed by Great Military powers like the United States and Russia. India always required Combination of all Air Defence Systems to gives us a multi-layered air defence cover which was always missing for decades now.

Air Defence Systems comes in following categories 1) Quick reaction Range Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM), 2) Short Range Surface to Air Missile (SRSAM), 3) Medium Range Surface to Air Missile (MRSAM) and 4) Long Range SAM (LRSAM) which can handle multi-threat level but also is more robust to deal with various types of Aerial Threat .

The IAF-specific variant of the QR-SAM will be employed exclusively for cruise missile defence (CMD), in particular against China’s ground-launched CJ-10/DF-10A and air-launched K/AKD-20 land-attack cruise missiles or LACM (all these being clones of the Ukrainian Korshun LACM that had been developed in the Nineties by Dnipropetrovsk-based Yuzhnoye State Design Bureau and Yuzhnoye Machine-Building Production Association, or Yuzhmash), and against the Babur (a DF-10A clone) and Ra’ad LACMs of Pakistan.

As for the CMD network’s projected deployment sites, two little known villages in the Alwar and Pali districts of Rajasthan have been selected for the first two QR-SAM Squadrons. Rajasthan’s State Forests Department has cleared the acquisition of 850 hectares of land in Khoa in Alwar district, and 350 hectares in Roopnagar for installing a CMD grid that will protect the western and southern approaches to India’s National Capital Region. Site selection work for a similar CMD grid meant for Jamnagar and Mumbai is now in progress.
